Stora Enso is reviewing its Central European sawmills and building solutions operations, signaling another step in its plan to shed non-core assets and concentrate on renewable packaging.

The Finnish-Swedish company said Friday the review covers seven sawmills in Austria, Czechia, Poland, and Lithuania, and three cross-laminated-timber mills, which together have a production capacity of about 3 million cubic meters.

The operations, which represent approximately 50% of the Wood Products segment's sales, could be divested as they do not offer strategic synergies for its core business, the company said.

The announcement follows a decision revealed earlier the same day to spin off Stora Enso's valuable Swedish forest assets into a separate, publicly listed company.

Both moves underscore the company's strategic pivot away from traditional wood products and toward its growing packaging division.

The company clarified that its sawmills in Northern Europe are not part of the assessment and remain strategically important to its operations.

Stora Enso plans to provide an update on the review in 2026.
