Saab wins Colombia fighter jet deal, expanding Latin American presence
Swedish defense company Saab AB said Friday it has signed a contract with the Colombian government for 17 Gripen E/F fighter jets, valued at 3.1 billion euros.
The order includes 15 single-seat Gripen E and two twin-seat Gripen F aircraft, along with associated equipment, weapons, and services, with deliveries scheduled between 2026 and 2032, the company said.
The deal expands Saab's presence in Latin America, following a major 2014 contract to supply 36 Gripen fighters to Brazil.
According to the company, the agreement also includes two offset agreements for industrial cooperation in areas such as aeronautics, cybersecurity, and sustainable energy.
"This marks the beginning of a strong and long-term partnership that will strengthen Colombia's defence and security, benefit its people, and boost the nation’s innovation power,” said Micael Johansson, President and CEO of Saab.
The contract adds to a strong order book for the Swedish firm, which recently secured other major deals and raised its full-year sales forecast.
