Telia's Bredband2 acquisition faces extended antitrust review in Sweden
Telia Company said Friday it is extending the acceptance period for its 3.11 billion Swedish kronor takeover offer for broadband provider Bredband2 after the deal came under an extended antitrust review in Sweden.
The Swedish Competition Authority has decided to initiate an in-depth, or Phase 2, investigation into the proposed acquisition, the company said in a statement.
Due to the review, Telia has pushed the deadline for shareholders to accept its offer to Jan. 30, 2026, from the original date of Oct. 17, 2025.
Telia said its assessment is that the competition authority's review will likely be completed by the second half of January 2026.
The Swedish telecom operator first announced its recommended cash offer for Bredband2 in July as part of a strategy to focus on its core Nordic and Baltic markets.
Other than the extension of the acceptance period, the terms and conditions of the offer remain unchanged, according to the company.
Settlement for tendered shares is now expected to begin around Feb. 6, 2026, provided the deal's conditions are met.
