Severn Trent said it has cut storm overflow spills by 65% in the first six months of 2025 compared with the same period a year earlier, following significant investment in its network.

The British water utility reported an average of around five spills for the half-year, putting it on track to meet its target of reducing average spills to below 18 for the full year, according to a trading update.

The company attributed the improvement to over 2,000 interventions in its storm overflow system, part of a wider plan to improve river health.

Severn Trent invested around 360 million British Pounds in its capital program in the first quarter of its fiscal year, a 19% increase from the prior year.

It is on track to deliver between 1.7 billion and 1.9 billion British Pounds of capital expenditure for the full 2026 fiscal year, the company said.

The company also said its financial performance remains on track and it expects to earn at least 25 million British Pounds in rewards for outperformance in the 2026 fiscal year, driven by improvements in leakage and storm overflows.
