Swedish steelmaker SSAB said Tuesday it is facing potential sanctions from the country's financial regulator over a large 2022 asset writedown.
The Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority has escalated its probe into a "sanction evaluation" concerning the disclosure around a 33.3 billion Swedish kronor goodwill impairment, the company announced.
The investigation, which the authority opened in March 2025, stems from a writedown SSAB took in its fourth-quarter 2022 results, primarily linked to its past acquisitions of Ipsco and Rautaruukki.
SSAB said it has not received further information from the regulator.
The company maintains that the impairment was reported in accordance with relevant guidelines and recommendations, an assessment it said is shared by its auditors and external experts.
