Swedish construction company Skanska AB announced it has secured two U.S. contracts totaling $514 million for a bridge replacement in Massachusetts and a new university building in Virginia.

The company said the value of both projects will be included in its U.S. order bookings for the second quarter of 2025.

The larger contract, worth $274 million, is with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation to design and replace the Rourke Bridge in Lowell.

According to Skanska, the project includes removing the existing temporary bridge and constructing a new permanent one, with work scheduled to begin in May 2025 and finish by February 2030.

The second award is a $240 million supplemental contract with Virginia Tech to construct a new College of Engineering building.

The project involves building the five-story Mitchell Hall, which will house five engineering departments and one of the largest university-owned wind tunnels in the country, the company stated.

Construction on the facility began in the spring of 2024 and is targeted for completion in the fall of 2028.
