Swedish defense company Saab AB said Monday it has secured an order valued at approximately 5.3 billion Swedish kronor for four Gripen E/F fighter aircraft for the Kingdom of Thailand.
The contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration finalizes a selection announced by the Royal Thai Air Force in June and includes three Gripen E and one Gripen F aircraft, along with associated equipment and training, the company said.
Deliveries are scheduled to take place between 2025 and 2030.
The Royal Thai Air Force is an existing Gripen operator, having first ordered the C/D version of the fighter in 2008, and the new jets will operate alongside its current fleet.
"Thailand is already a well-established Gripen user and familiar with the strengths that Gripen brings to the Royal Thai Armed Forces," Saab President and CEO Micael Johansson said in a statement.
"Thailand has chosen the most modern fighter on the market with which to build its next generation of strategic, independent capabilities."
Saab also signed a separate contract with the Royal Thai Air Force to provide a long-term package involving technology transfer and industrial cooperation, according to the company.
