Swedish defense company Saab AB said Friday it has received an order worth approximately 4 billion Swedish kronor from the Swedish Armed Forces to extend a maintenance contract for its Gripen fighter jets.
The order covers support and maintenance services for Gripen C/D and E aircraft for the years 2026 and 2027, the company said.
The agreement is an extension of a previous contract and also includes options for the armed forces to place additional orders for support and maintenance through 2029.
According to Saab, the services include technical system support, spare parts, repairs, and training required for the jets' flight operations.
"This contract extension means that we will continue to ensure a very high availability for Gripen and deliver the support the Swedish Air Force needs to maintain a high level of readiness,” said Lars Tossman, head of Saab’s Aeronautics business area.
The deal follows a previous three-year contract valued at 3.4 billion kronor that covered the period from 2023 to 2025.
The new order comes as Saab experiences strong demand for its products, having recently raised its full-year sales forecast and secured a 5.3 billion kronor order for Gripen fighters from Thailand.
