Vodafone said Friday it will acquire the post-paid mobile business of Telekom Romania for 30 million euros, the latest move in a broad corporate overhaul at the British telecommunications giant.
The deal with seller Hellenic Telecommunications Organization will see Vodafone's Romanian unit take over Telekom Romania's post-paid customer base, along with additional spectrum and towers.
Another local operator, Digi Romania, has agreed to acquire the pre-paid customer business, according to the announcement.
The acquisition comes as Vodafone undertakes a significant restructuring, which has recently included managing its debt portfolio and making changes to its executive team.
"This transaction strengthens our position in Romania, by increasing our local scale and unlocking significant synergy benefits," Vodafone Chief Executive Margherita Della Valle said.
"It supports our strategy of building strong positions in growing markets, which enables us to invest in the high-quality networks our customers rely on."
The company said the transaction finalizes a memorandum of understanding from October 2024 and is expected to close in early October 2025.
