Sweco accelerates acquisition spree to bolster European market position
Swedish engineering consultancy Sweco AB said it is ramping up its acquisition strategy, announcing five new deals in the second quarter and early July to strengthen its market position in Europe.
The company is completing its acquisition of Swedish rival Projektengagemang and has also bought two firms in the Netherlands and three more across Luxembourg and the Netherlands, which together will add more than 900 experts, it said.
"Acquisitions are a key growth driver for Sweco, and we have been clear about our ambition to increase the pace of acquisitions," President and CEO Åsa Bergman said in a statement.
The increased deal-making comes as the company reported second-quarter net sales of 7.83 billion Swedish kronor, down from 8.08 billion kronor a year earlier.
Sweco said its earnings before interest, taxes, and amortization, or EBITA, fell to 750 million kronor from 794 million kronor, but rose 15% when adjusted for a negative calendar effect with fewer working days.
For the first six months of 2025, net sales increased slightly to 15.9 billion kronor, while EBITA rose to 1.65 billion kronor from 1.59 billion kronor in the same period last year.
The company noted continued good demand for its services in the energy, infrastructure, and water sectors, though demand in parts of the building and real estate segments remained weak.
