Swedish engineering consultancy Sweco said Thursday it has secured a framework agreement with the Dutch government to help upgrade the country's infrastructure against rising sea levels and flooding.

As part of a consortium, Sweco will provide engineering services for major renewal projects over the next four to six years for Rijkswaterstaat, the Dutch agency for infrastructure and water management.

The overall framework agreement has a maximum value of approximately 1.7 billion euros, though Sweco's specific order value is yet to be determined, the company said.

The projects aim to ensure safety and resilience in the low-lying country, which is particularly vulnerable to climate change.

Sweco will provide expertise in areas including hydraulic and structural engineering, geotechnics, and environmental assessments.

"Rijkswaterstaat’s ambitious renewal projects directly address climate challenges and the modernisation of primary infrastructure in the Netherlands," said Eugene Grüter, Business Area President for Sweco in the Netherlands.

The contract follows another major Dutch project for Sweco announced in February, a 10-year agreement to help energy operator Gasunie transition its infrastructure from natural gas to hydrogen.
