Swedish construction company Skanska AB said Tuesday it has secured a $249 million contract with New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority to work on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.

The company will include the contract value in its U.S. order bookings for the third quarter of 2025.

The project involves designing and installing a dehumidification system for the bridge's four main cables to prevent corrosion, according to the company.

Skanska will also install an acoustic monitoring system, replace cable band bolts, and perform other structural maintenance tasks, as well as monitor the new systems for five years.

Work is expected to be completed in September 2029, the company said.

The contract adds to Skanska's extensive portfolio of bridge rehabilitation projects in New York City, which has included work on the Manhattan, Kosciuszko, and Triborough bridges.

The award follows a series of major U.S. contract wins for the company this year, bolstering its construction backlog amid strong performance in its core construction business.
