Swedish construction company Skanska AB said Tuesday it has secured a 261 million euro contract to build a new motorway section in northern Slovakia.

The contract, worth about 2.9 billion Swedish Kronor, will be included in the company's European order bookings for the third quarter of 2025, Skanska said.

The project for the National Motorway Company involves constructing a 9.6-kilometer section of the D3 highway near Žilina, which will improve international transit links to Poland and the Czech Republic.

According to the company, the work includes building 20 bridges, a rest area, and 14 kilometers of noise barriers.

Construction is expected to begin around the turn of the year 2025/2026 and is scheduled to last for approximately three and a half years.

The deal adds to Skanska's construction order book, which has been bolstered by a series of recent contract wins in the U.S. and Europe.

The win supports the company's core construction business, which reported improved margins in its latest quarterly results amid a slowdown in its property development division.
