Swedish construction company Skanska AB said it has secured a $148 million contract to build a standby power generation facility in Newark, New Jersey.
The contract was awarded by the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission to a joint venture between Skanska and Railroad Construction Company, the company said on Tuesday.
The project will provide 34 megawatts of backup power to the Newark Bay Wastewater Treatment Plant, ensuring its operation during electrical grid outages.
According to the company, construction began in the third quarter of 2025 and is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2027.
Skanska will include its share of the contract, worth about 1.5 billion Swedish Kronor, in its U.S. order bookings for the third quarter of 2025.
The project adds to Skanska's portfolio of energy-related construction in the U.S. and follows a series of recent contract wins that have bolstered its American order backlog.
