Swedish construction company Skanska AB said it has won its share of a contract worth $658 million to build a new rail bridge in Washington, D.C.
The company is working in a joint venture with FlatironDragados on the Long Bridge North project for the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority, Skanska said in a statement.
The project will replace an aging two-track system with a new 1.6-kilometer, four-track rail link to improve a busy corridor.
According to the company, the new western tracks will mainly serve Amtrak and Virginia Railway Express passenger trains, while refurbished eastern tracks will primarily be used for CSX freight rail.
Construction is scheduled to begin in July 2025 and is expected to be completed in December 2030.
Skanska will include its share of the contract, worth about 6.7 billion Swedish Kronor, in its U.S. order bookings for the second quarter of 2025.
The award is the latest in a series of major U.S. contracts for Skanska, which recently announced projects in Massachusetts, Virginia, and Oregon.
